Olveston Historic Home is one of the best preserved 'old' family homes I have ever seen. The entire property was donated to the city of Dunedin following the untimely death of the last living family member in the sixties - and it wasn't just the bricks and mortar. The donation included everything in the house: crockery, curtains, clothes, furniture, artworks, carpets. Everything, including the gorgeous gardens, garage and hothouse! We spent an interesting hour being guided through the main parts of the house that's packed with everything from kitchen utensils to a full sized snooker table, a Moroccan-themed snug, master bedroom, reception room and much more. Fantastic value at NZ$25 pp. Here are some photo highlights from both the house and its garden.
