If you are very lucky you can see a wide range of cats on safari. Small to scarily big. Even after experiencing several safaris over the years, I still marvel that you can drive right up to an apex predator in a Landcruiser and they often don't even acknowledge your presence. Some rangers admit that they still find that experience it a bit boggling - but then if this wasn't the case, and we were seen as potential snacks, no telephoto lens on earth could capture the full beauty of these creatures.

With the pride sitting all around her, this young lioness does not seem to be even slightly alarmed by our presence metres away.

African cats come in a range of sizes. This is the African Wildcat. Nocturnal and quite secretive - well you would have to be a bit sneaky when you live among lions and leopards
